Hugo Kunz
Hugo Kunz describes Atacama and Chile in 1890
Hugo Kunz
(*1852 - +1900) published two relevant books on Atacama and
Chile: "The Revolution and a detailed description of Chilean
reality" (a) around 1890 and "Chile and the German Colonies"
(b). The books were published in German. The descriptions of
KUNZ are interesting in that they illustrate the end of "silver
rush" and the general economic decline of ore mining.
The book "Chile and the German Colonies" had the purpose to
create a handbook, which gives the emigrant but also the
businessman a real impression of Chile. KUNZ therefore publishes
detailed lists of economic activities, for example of the
railway companies.
It should be mentioned that KUNZ put the railways into the
foreground, in all his books references are to be found.
