The capital of the small commune Alto del Carmen is a
village of 373 inhabitants (according to INE, 1992). It is very quiet,
has restaurants and offers rooms for overnight stays. Alto del Carmen is
located at the junction between Valle San Felix with the river "del
Carmen" and El Transito, you can do a lot of walks and excursions. There
is a beautiful hike to the river bank where the crystal clear water
invites you to bathe. The church next to the square was built in 1826.
The square invites you to rest in the middle of the intense green trees
and bushes.
The Alto del Carmen Commune is an extremely rural commune. The most
important villages are Alto de Carmen, San Felix and El Transito. The
total population of the commune is 4,840 inhabitants (according to INE
